On the 18th November 1981, Oscar Wichmann, with full enthusiasm and motivation, commenced his small business in Dundee by converting a house into a business premise. Oscar grew up on a farm and wanted to sell tractors and spares to the farmers in and around Dundee by assisting them to receive the implements easier and faster. He names the business, Farmtrac Spares. The name said everything about the business and was also easy to pronounce and remember. Oscar, with two other employees, traded in all tractor replacement spares.
At the end of 1984, the small business expanded and a workshop was built on the same premises. Farmtrac Spares changed its name to Farmtrac Dundee and the business grew into a medium corporative business. In January 1989, Richard Catlett, joined ownership with Oscar Wichmann. On the 1st April 1996, Oscar and Richard joined ownership with Dieter Tschirpig, to open a company in Vryheid called Farmtrac Vryheid.
